Research Proposal & Annotated Bibliography

A research proposal is meant to give you a chance to narrow down your topic and form an outline for your final essay. Base your proposal on these questions (essay format with strong transitions):
• What is your research question?
• What is your tentative thesis?
• Why does this topic interest you?
• Why should this topic interest others?
• What sources have you found already and how will they help you?
• What supporting questions do you have?
• What kind of sources do you still need to find?

Annotated Bibliography Assignment Description
Included with your research proposal is an annotated bibliography. Here, you will list at least 4 sources you will use for your research paper, along with an eight- to ten-sentence summary and evaluation of each source. These sources can be found on the internet, but they must be from publications that are widely considered reliable and reputable, like The New York Times or The Washington Post (Wikipedia is not a reliable source, although it can be a good place to begin the research process). One of your four sources must be an academic journal article (scholarly and peer-reviewed). The annotation for this source must be different from the abstract.
Read each source thoroughly and summarize the information that pertains to your topic. At the end of each summary, you should include a sentence or two stating how the information from the source will be used in your research essay.
Purpose
An annotated bibliography will help you
• find and organize relevant and reliable sources.
• summarize and evaluate the content of sources.
• determine the relevancy of sources to your topic.
• use MLA or APA format correctly.

My Proposal:
To combat the negative mental health effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in teens, I propose that the Federal government allocate funding for online and digital intervention programs. The CDC can be used as a source of credible information. Digital advertising by the government on social media platforms can make those in need of help aware of available resources. These programs can reach teens through dedicated mobile apps as well as via social media messaging and chat groups.
