Letter of Intent (Global Health)

In keeping with active learning and providing real world experiences, students will complete a Letter of Intent that is a three-page in length (not greater than or less than 3 pages) narrative in response to specific requests from an organization. (Cover pages, appendices, and reference lists do not count toward the 3 page limit.)The Letter of Intent will be:Three pages in length (it is not acceptable to submit less than 3 pages nor more than 3 pages)Single-spacedUse 12” font and be double spacedMaterials and examples will be referenced; references will be listed on a separate page and will not count toward the three page limitTone: the brief should be pithy and provide information that can be read and absorbed quickly by a busy decision maker.Error free – proof and spell check your work!Before developing your grant application, read Merson, Chapter 13, Management and Planning for Global Health, to inform your management considerations and the content of your application.Purpose: Respond to a Request for a Proposals for $15 million for Women and Children Health Issues, 5-year ProgramThe Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has issued a request for Letter of Intent for $15 million funding opportunity over a five year period. As the Minister of Health for your country, you will submit a Letter of Intent to Dr. Gary L. Darmstadt, Senior Fellow for Global Development, at the Gates Foundation and will include the following headings (do not deviate from the headers, additional sub-headers may be added):Priority Population and Problem – Defines the women and children’s health problem you have identified as a priority for your countryProposed Strategy – Provides an explanation of the proposed strategy that addresses a solution to the problem (MUST HAVE REFERENCES TO SUPPORT THE STRATEGY)Program Description – Describes a program (that has proven to be effective – you must search the literature for an evidence-based program that exists and works) financed with$15 million over a five year period that implements the solution to the problemProgram Details in Appendix Section (the pages in the Appendix are outside of the three page count) – to include:Appendix A: Implementation StrategyPreview the document – how the project will be implementedAppendix B: Key PartnersPreview the document – groups or organizations in your country that you can partner withAppendix C: Monitoring and Evaluation PlanPreview the document – process to monitor and evaluate the programAppendix D: 5-Year BudgetPreview the documentNOTE: templates for Appendices A-D are provided (linked above); students may develop additional Appendices (the Appendices do not count toward the 3-page limit)
