Historical Beer

Find an ‘old’ beer recipe and compare it to a modern interpretation of the same beer. Examples abound everywhere…an example for British beers is to be found in blogs such as Shut Up About Barclay Perkins; however, there are a huge number of alternate resources out there. The recipe should be at least 50 years old.

You will be provided with resources from the brewing inventory that will permit you to brew this beer. Aside from just brewing this/these beers, you are expected to give a full accounting of the reasons constituents were different to what would commonly be used today. What was the historical context in other words? War? Famine? Religious intolerance?
